Eyebrow Lift (Browlift) ​

Among the surgical methods, there are different techniques that are made by entering from the eyelid fold, just above the eyebrow, or from the hairline.

​

Brow lift surgeries are mostly combined with eyelid surgeries; Eyelid surgeries in which the eyebrows are not raised, although necessary, may cause patients not to be happy enough. Combining brow lift surgeries  eyelid aesthetics  surgeries provides longer-term youth to both the eyelids, eyebrows and forehead.

A frequently used method in eyebrow lift surgery is the indirect method, which is performed through the same hidden incision during blepharoplasty surgery, where excess eyelid skin is removed. In this case, since a new incision is not made, there is no possibility of scarring. The outer part of the eyebrow is released upwards through the lid and attached to the tissue on the bone from the inside at the desired height. In this method, only the outer part of the eyebrow can be raised.

Raising the eyebrow with an incision just above the eyebrow provides the most effective and longest lasting result. However, this method, which has the possibility of scarring, requires appropriate patient selection and very serious experience. In this method, in which direct tissue is removed, the intended amount of elevation and the desired eyebrow shape can be obtained mathematically. In this method, only the outer part or the whole of the eyebrow can be raised. In most cases, an experienced surgeon can provide scar camouflage with special techniques and, if necessary, post-operative injections, and there is no scar problem in the long run.

In eyebrow and forehead elevation, a very effective elevation can be made with lengthwise incisions made just in front of or just behind the scalp. However, these procedures, in which the entire forehead is raised, are not preferred today for some reasons such as requiring a long recovery period and causing loss of sensation, and are only recommended for a small number of suitable patients.

​

Less invasive methods have been developed to protect the nerves with the help of an endoscopic camera by entering through small incisions made in the scalp in eyebrow lifting. Although they have a shorter duration of effectiveness compared to surgeries performed with incisions directly over the eyebrow, they are still effective for years; Endoscopic methods have advantages such as the ability to remove the entire forehead and the absence of scarring.

Operation

​

Brow lift operations are performed under local anesthesia or drowsiness anesthesia (sedation). General anesthesia is generally preferred in endoscopic methods. According to the surgical technique, incisions can be made with scalpel (steel blade), electrocautery, radiofrequency devices. Each technique has a different suture material and fixation method suitable for it.

​

In the indirect method performed through the eyelid, the outer half of the eyebrow is released from the bone by moving upwards in a bloodless plane after descending from the fold incision to the appropriate tissue level. It is fixed to the semi-movable tissue on the bone with 1 or 2 permanent sutures by lifting the eyebrow up to the level determined during the examination. Then, the hidden incision in the lid fold is closed with sutures.

In eyebrow raising surgery to be performed directly over the eyebrow, a superficial incision is made just above the hairy part of the eyebrow and the incision is deepened with a modified method that will not damage the hair follicles. In this way, both the eyebrow hair loss is prevented and the scar camouflage is provided, and the surgeon's experience is very important in this sense. A predetermined amount of tissue is removed with the examination, and first the deep tissue is closed with embedded sutures, and then the skin tissue is closed with cosmetic stitches. Trace-preventing Z-plasty techniques are used at the incision tips. The surgery is terminated by sticking sterile bands on the incision sites.

In endoscopic brow lift surgeries, small incisions are made in the scalp. After descending to the tissue plane through these incisions, all forehead tissue and eyebrows are released by entering the endoscope and observing the nerves and vessels under direct imaging. Then, the eyebrow and forehead tissues are fixed by raising them with different methods using stitches or fixation implants. The incisions are closed with stitches or staples. A bandage is applied to the forehead area.

Postoperative

The patient can be discharged after 1-2 hours of observation and ice application after the surgery. No drain is used.  The recovery period after brow lift surgery is usually uneventful. The patient can continue with his daily activities that do not require excessive effort.

​

As in any surgery, there is a possibility of swelling and bruising, it varies between 1-2 days and 1-2 weeks, depending on the method. Significant pain is not expected during this period, and difficulties may be experienced in moving the eyebrows for the first 1-2 days. In the endoscopic method, there may be a temporary loss of sensation on the forehead. It is generally recommended not to touch the wounds with water for 5 days, stitches 7-10. taken in days.

At what age is brow lift surgery performed?

In fact, our eyebrow structure is determined by genetic factors and the eyebrows of the person can be low even at very young ages. However, especially low eyebrows at a level that prevents vision occur due to tissue laxity that develops as age progresses, and surgery is demanded in advancing ages.

Many patients in their twenties and thirties who look extremely unhappy and tired due to the excessively low outer part of the eyebrow, and this situation is reflected in their social relationships or performance at work, also benefit from eyebrow lifting surgery and become much happier and more productive in their social and business lives after the procedure.

Is brow lift surgery permanent?

The duration of effect of brow lift surgeries varies between 3 years and 20 years, depending on the structure of the patient's tissues, the aging process and the chosen surgical technique. In this regard, the longest effect can be achieved with the direct method just above the eyebrow.
